SPCPA faculty use an interdisciplinary approach to contextualize fiction and nonfiction texts. Students learn skills in annotation, literary analysis, argumentation, and research. Students practice multiple styles of writing and presentation and are expected to draft and revise often in order to build sophistication in vocabulary and syntax. Students are required to read widely and deeply, and though faculty meet the Minnesota State Standards in English Language Arts, students do have choice in what they read and research.
