The Preliminary SAT, more commonly known as the PSAT, is a reading, writing, language, and math test designed to help students prepare for the future by assessing knowledge and reasoning skills. By taking the test over the course of multiple years, students are able to monitor their progress towards college and career readiness; they can determine what they currently know and which areas need more focus. By taking this assessment now, our students will also be better prepared to take college entrance exams, such as the SAT or ACT.
This exam is also the National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (NMSQT). For 11th graders this means that their scores could automatically put them in the running for the National Merit Scholarship Program (an academic competition conducted by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation). In 2019, we had three students receive a Commendation from the National Merit Scholarship Corporation for their performance on this assessment.
